4040 turbo ??? for sale on ebay

There is a 4040 for sale on ebay that the seller claims has a turbo...and it came from John Deere that way. The seller also writes " For all you deere nuts that think i'm nuts.... this tractor did come with the turbo diesel and foot throttle. Lets see who can figure out why....... " Any one have a clue..I don't.

I have seen 'lots' of 4040's, and put a few turbo's on them but i have never seen one come factory with one, maybe one was offered for export market..For the most part a 4040 is a new version 4230,still had the 404 engine, while the other 40' row crops had 466 engines, but I have seen adds with MFWD's on 40 seres row crops,I've never walked up to one, but in the picture adds it was the real deal, they must have been intended for export, could be the story on this one.

Somebody brought a turbo 4040 over from Europe or maybe Canada. The engine was either a 329 or 359 Dubuque style rather than Waterloo.

if momery serves me right there was a short time in the mauf life of the 4040 that deere put in a 359 turboed engine Kent

That is the European version of the 4040 built in Mannhiem, Germany. I know this because I own a 1980 JD 4040 with a 359 Turbo engine. It is pretty much the same tractor as the American version, just a different engine. From what I've found, lots and lots of them found their way over here over the years. My dealer can get me any part I need and so far it has been an awesome tractor. 7600 hours and it doesn't use a single drop of oil.

The US version of the 4050 used a 359 turboed engine inthe first year and was later upgraded to a non turboed 466.

Yes it seemed like Deere couldn't decide which power unit to go with, both choices were good, but I lean hard towards Waterlo engines..

MSM, I think you have that in reverse. The 4050 was originally offered with a naturally aspirated 466 and was changed to the turbo 359 in the last year of production. Like Tim said, while the Manheim engine is a good engine my preference would always be a Waterloo engine as well. Mike

A good friend of mine has one like that. Its a German made tractor and he found that out the first time he went to order parts

Great thing about Mother Deere. Even though some tractors are made in Germany, France, Spain, India, Mexico etc. Just supply the JD parts counter person with the proper number. And the items are there in a day or two at most.

I have a European 4040, 4500 hours, find it hard to get parts for it, I tell people it looks more like a 2955 series more than the 4040 American. One big givaway is that the ignition turns of with the key instead of a pull type kill switch to the fuel pump.

I don't believe you. Parts from France, Mannheim, Dubuque, Waterloo all show up here the next day on the JD parts counter.
