John Deere 2010 serial number

I recently purchased a John Deere 2010 row crop tractor. Where should I find the serial number? I have not found any serial number plate anywhere on the tractor. I was told the data plate ought to be on the right rear of the tractor. On both sides of the rear of the tractor just outboard of the top link of the 3 point are casting stamps "T16158T" - but no plate. Casting stamps with different numbers are located all over the tractor.

After reading the early June posting regarding 2010 serial number plate location, I re-examined the tractor and believe I found the location on the right side of the engine block where the plate used to be - it's gone. Any secondary way to identify the serial number (or at least get close)?

There are many small changes along the way as the 2010 evolved. If diesel, the injection system changes three times. If gas, the governor changes several times. Many other small changes, external and internal.

thanks for response. it's gas. my first JD. I'm trying to figure out how the 3 point controls are supposed to work. I believe the first two levers to the left of the steering column control the 3 point - but the teleflexs are siezed so I can't experiment (I just removed them today and have freed them up but haven't reinstalled yet).
In addition, there is a foot lever located below the clutch pedal. I don't have a clue as to it's function.
I'd like to get an operator's manual, but there are several to choose from and I'd like to pick the right one before i crack open the wallet.

My condolences On a 2010 being your first John Deere,,You are in for many surprises..I hope your not expecting to do much work with it..If it's a gas engine you are slightly better off..Good Luck..

There's a TRANSMISSION serial # stamped directly into the top of the tranny case, beside the cover, under where your left heel is when you are sitting in the seat. (Hidden by the steel operator's platform.)

On ONE tractor I've worked on, that number was fairly close to the engine/tractor serial #. IIRC, those #'s were in the 20,000 range. I have NO idea how far they may have drifted apart over the production run of the tractor. Might be worth having a look.

The lever below the clutch pedal operates a dog clutch down in the bowels of the tractor to disengage the hydraulic pump.

It must have the dual 3-point system with separate right and left controls and left arms that can be locked together to operate as a standard 3-point.

Do you need that (for a mounted cultivator) or will you be operating it a a standard 3-point?

If you want to operate it as a standard 3-point, There's a place to put a pin to lock the two sides together. There's two little levers by your left heel. The inner one is for "load or depth", the outer one is for 1 rockshaft or 2. Put it in the "1" position. (BACK, IIRC.)

Then, put the dashboard LH lever all the way forward, and leave it there and control the co-joined hitch with the RH dashboard lever.

(At least that's the way I remember how to operate the hitch.)
