JD 60 COOLANT TUBE.

I have a 1953 John Deere 60. The upper coolant tube o'rings are leaking. I have the new o'rings and gaskets but I cannot get the tube out.The coolant manifold bolts are out on the block, the pipe and coolant manifold will move back and forth but the tube will not come out on either radiator or manifold. I have even put a port-a-power between coolant manifold and radiator tank and applied slight pressure while moving and it still will not pull out.Any advise would be great. Thank you.

Be carful with putting pressure on the upper casting ,,that old style cast can be very "brittle",,you may need to cut the pipe off flush and gently cut it out of the casting and replace pipe & O-rings,,the pipe is probably very thin anyway..

Take it away from the fuel tank and apply heat and burn out the old o-rings. Stinky but works really well on the tough ones.

If you need a need coolant tube, Sharps Antique Tractor Works has them. Clean out the o-ring grooves well and use some lubricant (silicone grease) on the new o-rings when re-installing the pipe. Stay away from vaseline or petroleum products. They degrade o-rings unless they"re designed for those materials. It will go back together hard.
