I have a 990 jhon deere and would like to run a logsplitter of the hydraulic system. I would like to know if anyone could tell me where to tap in to the hydraulic system at. I have heard abought the power beyond but if i can do it without buying it from deere i would like to try it if i can find the fittings . Also if anyone knows what type of fittings jd uses. Any info would be greatly apreciated thanks.

check with your john deere dealed to see if there is a "power-beyond" kit, this has all plumbing to put a pressure port and a return port at a rear location. i did my 790 jd for the exact same purpose you want to do. my splitter works farely slow due to small pump output, but it beats swinging a maul. good luck, d. coleman

Power Beyond is a good way to go. That is the full output of the pump, no valves, as it would be sent to a major attachment like a #47 backhoe and such. There is another alternative that works pretty well. Quite often you can buy a pto mounted, just-slide-it-on, hydraulic pump, like those made by Prince, on eBay for less than you'll pay for a Power Beyond kit. If you won't have need for the p-b kit down the road, or you want to be able to run the splitter on any tractor that you happen to have that has a pto, this might be a better way. You'll need to make it self contained, so you need a tank/reservoir, but you will have lots of volume and an impressive splitter. I have built a few, and the standalone pto versions, if you have a CUT diesel which is very economical to run it, are very handy.
