I have a 1947 John deere A I stroked the crank 5/8 inch. bored cylinders .125 over I an going to run a set of m&w pistons but the bottom oil ring is coming out of cylinder. is this ring important?? can i get away without it?? or do i need to cut another groove.

You can do without it, but it"ll smoke some. When I did something similar years ago (stroked 2") I moved the oil ring up to the first groove above the wrist pin. Had a machine shop widen the groove to the proper size, and drill drainback holes for the oil like the origional groove had. Worked well. Mike

Nope, just left is as it was. Traded that block/piston assy even up for a power block, so have no idea where it even is now. Mike

Ray, our old "B" was bored 3/16" in 1960 and Allied pistons installed..
They have no "Bottom Ring" and I can tell you that , since I ues the pet cocks a lot, it does slobber when running with them open, but it is still as good as ever..
If you decide to place the oil ring in the last groove above the pin and it uses 1/4" wide compression rings, use 2- 1/8" compression rings in all but the top ring groove..they will seal better than a 1/4" ring and you can stagger the gaps for an even Better seal..!
