Seems like I'm in the same boat as many of the other respondee's. If I could get a copy of the wiring diagram for the STX38 (yellow deck) it would greatly be appeciated.

steve,

I have a black deck stx-46 that I just bought and the engine was shot. I am looking high and low for a wiring diagram for this thing so I can wire up a non-jd replacement engine (only one I could find in my budget). If you happen to have a wiring diagram for this thing I would be in your debt! Thanks in advance! Ken

Hi,
Yellow deck. Rebuilt - must has done something wrong or just coincidence that it want run. Start swith position works fine, let key spring back to run - it shuts down.
A wiring diagram is what I need at the moment (and any advise from your knowledgable experience.
Regards,
Stanley

Steevereno: I have a yellow deck, circa 1990, STX38. If you have a wiring diagram you can easily send me, i'd very much appreciate it. I was mowing fine, then tractor "died". Having trouble getting it going again. Seems to have both spark and gas, but won't fire. Also, previous owner has disabled a safety interlock or two - i'd like to reinstate them. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

Hello, I would love a copy of your wiring schematic for the STX 38. It has a black deck. I'm having problems starting it, and this would be really helpful. Thank you!

Any chance of getting a wiring diagram for a 1990 stx38 yellow deck? having problems with starting circuit. good batter, good starter, good starter solenoid, good ground, electric clutch switch good. Have been told in-series safety switches build up electrical resistance over time and prevent adequate current to starter solenoid. Cannot find where solenoid wired originates.

Thanks.

I've had an stx 38 for about 12 years (yellow deck) and would very much like to receive a copy of the wireing diagram , I will be selling it this spring . I just bought a very nice used stx38 about 5 years old looks to be hardly used and could also use a wireing diagram for this one . The new one is hyrostatic and has a black deck .
Yesterday I tried to start this new tractor for the first time without success , it ran when purchased in January . All I get is the selonoid click , (battery voltage 12.26v) other than the seat switch is there another proceedure to starting .

Thanks for your help

Ed

Ed: Have you found a diagram? I have the yellow stx38 and with new starter and solenoid, it won't start. Jumping direct to the blue wire on the solenoid works every time. My starter repair shop said he has heard the contacts/wiring in the safety loops get burned over time and build up resistance, and then there is too much loss between the start switch and the solenoid switch. He was told there is a "voltage booster" kit (I don't believe that is possible, but there may be some kit that does something...like bypassing relays or adding an auxilliary relay) that will solve this "common" problem. Or wiring around some of the switches is a possibility...did you ever find a wiring diagram?

Mike

Hello, I have a JD STX-38 in excellent condition. I just bought it used, and it is about 9 years old. I"m having problems starting it. I don"t even hear a clicking sound when I turn the key. Same issue as the last guy. Jumping from the battery to the solonoid will start it every time. I replaced the solonoid, but this did not solve the starting problem. Any suggestions?

not sure if this will help - but I had a lot of trouble with my stx38 (black deck). Sometimes had trouble starting, then once up and running and mowing, the mower would kick off for no reason.

After a lot of checking of this and that, I found I could start the tractor by turning the key verrrrry slowly right to magic point where it would connect the starter.

It was very intermittent problem so it was very frustrating, it progressively got worse.

At first I didn"t think the two problems were related - but they were. I found I could get the mower started by turning the key back a bit while running.

Call me lazy, but I actually mowed my entire two acre lawn twice using this "fix". Very painful on the fingers - I don"t recommend it.

When I finally got around to it, swapping out the ignition switch fixed both problems.

Very easy fix. I pulled off the back wheel for breathing room, but you really don"t need to. Remove the two bolts under the fender that hold the whole plastic switch assembly together. (just the two rear bolts - you don"t need to remove the two front ones - it"s not obvious, but the whole top assembly is a two part ordeal)

The whole top piece with the switches pops out. - Just disconnect the plug from the switch. Then on the top, use a screwdriver to pop off black plastic cap that surrounds the key hole. Undo the big nut that holds the switch in - reverse the whole operation with the new switch and you"re done.

... unless of course like me you need to file down your rusty old key so it will fit the new switch....

very easy fix.

If you have a way to provide a wiring diagram for an STX 38 Black deck that would be great. Starts and idles fine. Intermittent stall with or without the blade engaged either running or more often now when I let off the brake. Disconnected the seat interlock (replaced recently), the symptoms are the same.

Thanks for any help,
Ed

Hi Dan,

My neighbor has an STX38 - ran last fall - won't even try to turn over this year. I've tested that battery, and can get it to turn by jumpering across the solenoid, but there is no voltage at the control terminals on the solenoid when the key is in the on position - seems to be a bad key switch or other switch along the way - a wiring diagram would really help out...any help or advice is appreciated.

My tractor (STX 38 - Black deck Motorsports Edition) ran fine the last time I used it and then the next time it would not even try to turn over. We could "hot wire" the tractor to start it but the blades would not engage. We have replaced the solinoid to the starter, the PTO switch, ignition switch and the Neutral Safety Switch under the clutch. Ours is NOT a hydrostat. Any suggestions on what we can check would be appreciated.
