John Deere B Production record

Due to an earlier post, I had my serial number researched by the John Deere Two-cylinder club.
Here's what was mailed to me:

Warehouse date: March 19, 1940.
Ship date: March 19, 1940.
Branch: Omaha, Nebraska.
Destination: Atlantic, Iowa.
Special Equipment: ab2001, 5.00x15, 4-ply front and skeleton rear wheels.

Was this a dealer in Omaha? Was the original buyer in Iowa? What's ab2001? Is that the lift? Can I assume it had metal rear wheels originally. It has 38" pressed steel rims now.

Can anyone shed more light on this?

Thanks, in advance.

Pat, the destination of Atlantic, Iowa would have been the receiving dealer with the tractor being billed through the Omaha branch house of Deere and Co. The AB2001 would have been the in-factory number of the option package that your tractor originally had, odds being the rubber front and skeleton steel rear wheels. Hope this helps. Mike

Correct. Hardly worth it. Especially for a whopping $25.00. Not that it'll break me but that's 7 gallons of gas I could be running in it.
No....not worth the money in my humble opinion.

Well at least that price is still the same. One of the few things that hasn't went up. Back when I had mine done 1990-1991 ? You could of bought LOTS ! of gas for that $25.00

I couldn't find anything on ab2001, but the way they have it listed ,it's the wheel equipment, and yes it did come with steel wheels on the rear, the lift would have a pl#.
Atlantic, Iowa was the dealer, Omaha was the branch warehouse where a tractor would go if it was considered open stock( It could have been sent to any branch) and was not a specail order for anyone

Actually, the information is INCREDIBLY CRUCIAL when determining, say, whether or not a particular model 520 was really an all-fuel or not.

Plus, i'd never buy it for a model "B" or an "A" since there were billions of the darn things and half the parts on most of them came off of tractors from the other side of the country.

To say its not worth it is not true in all aspects. you never know what you might find out. some tractors were rebuilt experemental tractors that were renumbered. You might find you tractor is supposed to have a wide front, or single, or be some other rare item. I did this once with a 39' and it turned out to be the first styled BN built.
