I am giving the carb off of my B a good cleaning and overhaul and was wondering when I install the new brass plugs should there be any type of sealant applied to the threads? I have a passage way drill set ordered so I can do the job right and have read the information on the JD H restoration website which was VERY helpful on explaining the operation of a DLTX carb. Dave,
I use Loctite 565 PST (Pipe Sealant with Teflon) on the brass plugs - just a little on the first threads will provide a good seal. I also use it on the idle and load needle threads, needle seat threads, etc.

I use non-hardening permetex on them. You want a good seal. I know of a nationaly advertised carb. repairer that installs them dry and caused alot of grief to a few people. These castings are very old and had several hands on them so the fit of the parts are now less then perfect. Plus sealer aids in future removal too.
