With an open center system hydraulic valve the oil flows through the valve and returns to the reservoir until a spool on the valve is moved, then it is routed to the load. How does the power beyond plug or sleeve change that? I have always thought that you could hook several valves together, outlet to inlet and they would work, you would only get flow to the first one in line that is opened, but each of them would work the same as long as it was the only one open. Does power beyond change that so 2 valves could be operated at the same time?

Power beyond separates pass through pressure and valve (e.g. cylinder) return. You always want the returns at low pressure else cylinders won't move and some valves will split the casting. The return circuit isn't made to handle much pressure.

One thing a "power beyond" system does is allow the oil from the relief valve to return to the tank, preventing two relief valves from being stacked in series.

Also, it divdes the oil flow, to a degree, so you can operate a function with the first valve bank, and have oil available at the second valve bank, to operate a function there.
