I bought a Bearcat grinder-mixer and was looking for owners/
parts manuals for it and finally found that the McConnel-Marc Company is the successor to the Western Land Roller line of grinder-mixers. Here is the link to their website:

I have an old belt driven one that I set up on a truck frame and made a PTO drive out of it. It is a 10" one. I used a combine tank for a hopper and did away with the dust collector and ran an auger out of the mill back to the vertical auger in the tank. The mill was alright when I moved it outside about 2 years ago but the bottom of the tank was bad. The junk man was supposed to get it last summer but he has not showed up yet. So I still have it. I pulled it with a 35 HP tractor.

When Ingersoll-Rand bought Western for the pump line back in the early "70s, McConnell Manufacturing Company of Prattsburgh, New York, bought the Bear Cat line of grinders and flail choppers and Western line of packers to add to the potato equipment and the Ontario grain drills they were already making. McConnell made grinder-mixers under the Bear Cat name into the "90s. I remember seeing a new one on a dealer lot aroun 1998. Might find some parts through them.

Not sure of the model #, but I have one that hasn't been used for almost 30 yrs.

All complete with 2 wheel cart and PTO drive (540 of course). It has the 6 foot(approx) feed apron, cyclone dust collector, with about an 10 foot unload auger.

Located in southern MN.

i think if you got a tractor hevy enough to power it ,then it would be worth having a machine shop make the parts and keep it going. definitly a overbuilt ,heavy duty unit.i'd bet theres nothing on the market today made that heavy .

Hi Gil,

Ouch! Boy I dunno 'bout that one. What are you needing? That set of belts?

I'm pretty sure that company went out of business some time ago. They were located in Grand Island, Nebraska and also made pumps & bowls for irrigation wells.

One heck of a grinder; spent my whole youth feeding one of the things earcorn with a spud fork.

Hope you find your parts,

Allan

Don't know about parts, etc; do know that "way back when", they were considered the 'Cadillac' of grinders, at least locally..... .

We had one when I was a kid back in NH , it seemed very heavy duty, and did a great job compared to the previous Papec hammermill we had. They have one without the dust collector here at the Antique Steam and Gas Engine Museum, Vista,CA
that I am thinking about restoring. I believe they were made in Hastings, NE.
