Looking for various vegetable seed plates for a John Deere 71 Flexi-planter. Also milo/sorghum plates if you have them. Have corn and bean plates already. Would like onion, pumpkin, etc. I need a pair of each. Let me know what you have by email or respond here. I would also like to get fertilizer attachments for a row machine if you have it.

If I'm not mistaken, I recognise your name as the one that bought a planter like mine, from the same person I did. If so, you live real close to me. (I live just south of Louisville, Kentucky, and farm in Indiana) If so, contact me. I have LOTS of #71 planter parts. John

First off, go to the Lincoln Ag website. They sell Lustran plates for the #71. (Corn, soybean, sunflower, milo/sorgham) The veggie "plates" require sub-plates and a number of other accesories that are quite hard to find. Lincoln Ag sells blank plates that you can drill/machine to specific seed sizes.

If you don't already have one, you need the manual to that planter.

I have a couple manuals, and a mother-load of seed plates. You can contact me at jfugit@iglou.com and I will try to help you further. When I get home, in about an hour, I'll post a couple pictures, and give you more info.

GREAT planter units!

Also, Yetter Mfg. still markets the #71 row unit. They are doing one more production run of #71's. Then their future is up in the air. They bought the manufacturing rights from Deere. Contact them for further info also. John

Does that 71 planter unit take the same plates as all the rest of the John Deere series tractor planters of plate type?

That sure looks like a sweet set up you have.

Have you ever seen those Allis-Chalmers pack wheels that have the double ridges. Hm, can't think of another way to describe them. I like the design of them over the style you have, which I had on my units.

Those press wheels work great with our soil type. I'm currently working on a liquid fertilizer set-up for that planter, fed from a tank that would mount on the front of the tractor. I'm also working on a hydraulic row marker set-up.

With good luck, this planter will last me a lifetime. John

Thats a great looking planter.

You arent the guy thats selling them on ebay by any chance? I think he was from Indiana too. I was looking for one of these for a long time but the $600-$800 price they command is just too rich for my needs. I just wont use it enough to justify that investment.

I am guessing those flex planter units are pretty easy to mount/dismount. Did you get yours by cannibalizing a 4-6-8 row planter or buy it already built?

I always hear these planters are around but never seem to see any for sale. I think I would buy it if I saw one at auction. It would be fun to make 2 or three of these two row units up and sell the extras. Could make a few bucks maybe.

I BOUGHT this one from the "guy on E-bay". He's a great person to do business with. This one was part of a 16 row plante at one point. I'm looking for a few more units to build a 4 row planter with.

The #71 unit planter is a VERY simple, VERY reliable, VERY durable, VERY accurate planter. They are well worth the cost, if you can afford one. I have an 8 row Max-Emerge II John Deere planter for "the big stuff", but the 2 row is for a 2 acre sweetcorn plot, and a 1/2 acre greenbean plot I plant every year. (We provide for most of the family, and give a bunch to our church)

If you ever get the chance, get yourself a #71 planter! John

The older Flex-71 planters were the planters of choice a couple of decades ago in Kansas.

I purchased my units about 1978 for $150 per row. They are still used by some, but most have given way to no-til units. Sometimes you can still find them in the "The High Plains Journal" classified section, probably the Kansas area "Fast Line" too.
