I would like to purchase a used 3pt. sikle bar mower to cut ditch banks from the top down. That would require a mower that can swing approximately 45 degreees below the level position. Which mower should I look for? Some of the ones I've seen only go down to a level position. I would also like one I can still find parts for.

I have a NH 451, it seems to be bullet proof!!! Looks to be built to last forever, and mine just keeps on going.

I use it to cut ditches, and also to mow the banks on my ponds, i can run the sickle under water, and cut everything off at the bottom, even small trees.

Very good mower,

Robert

The NH451 sicklebar mower is the industry standard that all other single action sicklebar mowers are compared too.

We use a Ford 501 mower that we use to cut ditches with. I have no problem with it running well below or above the tractor even with the pitman stick. One word of advice. Weld a brace onto the pick up arm (for the lack of a better term). This is the arm that has two ball joints on it. I finally straightened ours enough that I welded a chunk of 1/2" axle to it to keep it from bending. So far it's worked flawlessly. That arm costs in the $150 range I think.

The Allis Chalmers twin wheel drive would cut straight up or below level. I am not sure it would cut below level at a 45 degree angle or not. I have not seen a three point model but I understand they did make them.

TD, I have a M F 41 Dynabalence that will cut at an angle below level. It is belt driven. I also have one to sell. Allen

Where are you located and how much do you want for it. Does the MF come in an 8' model? What iss the advantage of a belt driven mower?
