Looks like I'll be bringing home a Ford 503 side-delivery 3-pt. hay rake tomorrow. Looks in pretty good condition other than tires/tubes may need to be replaced. Owner says it works...they all say that don't they! $250 - good price? Any comments on good or bad features, hints, suggestions, etc.?

Thanks!

I bought a Ford 503 rake, Ford 515 mower, Ford 530 Baler and a Montgomery ward wagon last weekend. It all works but could all use some work. My question for you is on the rake there is a tube on the left (from behind) about 6" long with 2 holes on the top and 1 on the bottom. Do you know what is supposed to go int there? Do you have a picture or two that you could send me?
Thanks for any help.

Tom and Jim...

Thanks for the replies. That's encouraging.

I'm afraid the Ferguson DEO-20 that I've talked to Jim about just needed too much. Guess I'll use some parts and make the rest available. Was a recent post here from a guy looking for parts - have some new spindles and bearings I'll be willing to part with now. Will have to see how I can use it to offset some of the cost of the Ford.

Chuck, email me. I could maybe use some parts off your Ferguson.

I loved mine. Was quiet and did a great job for me in the field. Don't remember for sure, but I think I paid a little more than you are but somewhere in the ballpark.

Unfortunately I was daydreaming one afternoon and forgot it was wider than the tractor when I drove thru a half-open gate. Smashed up the stripper tube...still available from New Holland for $270. As much as I loved it, I couldn't part with that kind of cash when it also needed other work and parts after the crash.

enjoy it,
Tom

I had one for a couple of years. It was included in the deal when I bought my tractor. I liked the way it worked, but it was just too worn out to begin with. I finally had to scrap it. Teeth were still available from FNH dealer. I'd buy another one if I could get one in good shape. Right now I'm using a $125 Ferguson DEO-25 that has cost me another $100 in parts to make it work, so $250 for one ready to go doesn't sound bad to me.
