Expensive lesson

One of the tilt rams on the loader was leaking hyd fluid. HPGL4 rated fluid is twenty bucks a gallon, and I was going through about a gallon a week, when the tractor is running a lot. So I got a seal kit. I got the gland off and got the ram out easily. But, when I went to take the end off, It was stubborn... so... my wife and I got on both sides, she had a six foot bar to hold it from turning. I had a 3/4" breaker bar with some pipe on it.

Well... it turned hard for a long time. Then, when we had it almost all the way off... That split fiberglass seal/linear bearing rotated to a spot where I could see... a set screw...

Underneath it.

I loosened the set screw, but it was too late. Damage was done.

Things happen. I try to find a manual on something or ask around if in doubt. Had a similar experience with my boat. Throttle-
shifter is single lever and you push a button to have throttle only. I had a problem and needed to remove the handle/lever....in
short, if you push the lever to the firewall, lo and behold is a set screw conveniently located underneath where you couldn't
otherwise see it.

so was she happy with you that you made her work so hard? guess you clean it up see if it goes back on then spot weld it. or buy another cyl.

Dad and I found out the sprocket on the left side of a gleaner combine that comes off the fan is threaded on the shaft, not jammed on. Even heated up red hot, you cant
get that little sprocket pulled straight off..... screws off easy backwards though when the mangled sprocket cools down.

Live and learn.

There is a special place in heaven for my wife, after what she has endured.

The best story is about the time she was baling while I was at work, and the PTO aseembly on the baler had an issue. The parts guy at the local dealer wasn't quite sure what to do, when a woman carries an entire NH269 baler drive train into the shop and lays it on the counter...

Rethread what you can screw if back an and weld the piston
to the rod . We have all done something similar in our
mechanic career whether we like to admit it or not

And I have welded lots of pistons to the rod . Wrap a couple
wet rags around the rod above where you weld and run a
good bead around it

PTO pulley on front of engine of the older cub cadets, like 108, 128, to take it off there are three set screws to take out. Simple enough! Not so, there are three more
to take out. They put one set screw on top of the other. Like lock nuts. Never seen that before.

Yes, we all come onto unusual things like listed here. I had Cub Cadet three blade mower deck. Wore out belts rapidly. Frayed,
This went on for a few years. Took deck off, layed on some saw hoses, in order to scrape the bottom really clean. Flipped deck over, happened to drop my scraper,
reached down to pick it up, and noticed at eye level, that the idler pulley did NOT line up. I turned it over, then it lined up. Had extended hub on one side. This not
noticeable on tractor, or from viewing from above. Had to be eye level with it. This must have been a quarter to five job at the factory! Belt$ la$t longer now.

I'd also weld it... What have you got to
lose really? Next time you can replace
the rod, cut the end off or cut the weld
