So far you folks have been a big help in my search for a sickle bar mower. Thanks. Now I'm confused about the Ford 515/516 sickle bar mowers. The guy who has one for sale says it's a Ford 516. Where do I need to look to find the model number to make sure he's right? What is the difference between a 515 and a 516? I looked at the New Holland web site trying to find a manual and all they have listed is the "515 series rear mounted mowers". It doesn't say sickle bar mower. What years were these made? Thanks again.

According to the dealer, the Ford 515 is a sickle mower and a manual is available. It's no longer in production (it was made from 1955 to 1979), but parts are available. The Ford 516 is a manure spreader.

Well, I should be able to find out whether the 516 really exists or not later this afternoon. I'm going to the NH dealer to pick up some stuff and while I'm there I'm going to ask them to look it up. I'll also check on parts availability.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE FORD 515 FOR THE SIMPLE
FACT IT IS NOT IN PRODUCTION. THE NH 451, JD 350,
CASE/IH 1600 (IH 1300) ARE STILL BEING MADE ABD
PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. A BUDDY AT WORK HAS A 515 AND
A 451. HE SAYS THE 451 WILL OUT MOW IT. BUT HE SAYS THE 515 MOWS GOOD.

I've had no trouble getting parts for the 515? Tons of donor machines sitting around too.

Never heard of a 516, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

Now I am not the final end to this conversation but I don't think Ford ever made a 516 mower. I bet you find it to be a 515 and it will have a big 515 on the belt cover on the back of the mower. If it is truly a 516 then I would check with a local FNH dealer about parts cause you sure are not going to find them in a junk yard. If the mower doesn't still have the 515 on the back of it look for a plate with model and serial numbers on it. It will be plainly visible if you look around on the mower. If you still are having trouble identifying it take a pic and post it here. Someone will know

If I remember right the 515 was rear mount and the 516 was belly mount. But other than that they were the same.

Thanks. If you're right, then it must be a 515 since it looked like a 3pt hitch mount. I'll take a closer look at it. I've only seen it once in the pouring down rain, so I didn't look at it real close.
