JD 999 planter plates?

Hi,
I have an old JD 999 planter I would like to plant sweet corn
with. I have been having a hard time finding the right plates
for it. It has y2977b plates in it now but don?t have any others
for it. According to the manual it looks like I need plates y3352
for small sweet corn seed or y3355 for medium seed. Any
help on where to find these would be appreciated!

The Allis Chalmers planters used the same old-style "bar" plate as the 999. Lincoln Ag Products makes an adapter that allows you to use the new "open" style Deere plate in an Allis planter so I would THINK that the same adapter would also work with a 999. (Don't know that for certain, though.) If this is correct it would allow you to use any Deere plate in your planter. LAP can also recommend a particular plate based on a sample of your seed.
 
The newer Deeres used an adapter plate to use the open type of plate and just using that you can use any newer Deere plate. Now over the years Deere did use 2 different plates so be sure to get the one that will fit your planter. No longer have any machinery so I cannot tell you for sure witch one you need. Center hole is slightly different. Look for a 290, 490, 494, 494A, 4-6 or 8 row versions. The 12XX series plate planter also used that part.
 
sweet corn seed is 'varigated'. Meaning not all the same size. So a single drop cell really wont work right. I use a large round(B-1 or B-2) cell corn plate. Sometimes you get a double. Less often there will be a skip. Good enough for a sweet corn plot. If you simply must have that perfect,'measured' stand,then you will need a high dollar finger pickup;vacume,or air planter.
 
Thanks for all the help! I ended up cutting the original plates I had to act as an adapter for some b1 Lustran plates I found. Seems like it should work pretty well so will give it a try after it warms up a little bit.
