Bush Hog Question for a '63 Ford 2000 4-Cylinder

My current bush hog finally rusted through and welds have popped. I am in the market for another 5' bush hog. All of the newer hogs I have seen say they are rated for 40HP tractors. In its prime, my tractor had a 31HP pto rating....but I suspect over the years it has lost at least a horse or two in power.

My question is, can the newer hogs be used on the lower HP tractors? Or should I try buying a older, used bush hog hoping that it was rated for lower HP tractors as well?

Let me know you thoughts!

Thanks in advance.

Likely means rated up to 40 HP, a NEW 5'-0" rotary cutter will be just fine on a 4 Cylinder Ford 2000 Tractor. Remember, correctly sharpened and balanced blades + correct adjustment to the tractor will always get the best results.

Billy has that right. 40HP means that is the highest HP it is rated for as for the gear box. So if yo where to buy it and use in on say a 50HP tractor any warranty it had would be void due to you running it on a tractor with to many HP

I use a 5ft Howse brand cutter on my TO35 Ferguson
It?s a medium duty cutter, works good, all the little Ferguson wants in heavy grass and weeds,

My uncle had a 5ft bushhog brand cutter for his MF35, it was a much heavier cutter, but am sure was much more expensive machine,

Just depends what type materials you are cutting

An 8N Ford handles a 5 foot brush mower in most cases unless you get in real tall stuff, then low gear works best and they only have 23 HP,I've mowed many acres
year after year with a Jubilee and a 5 foot mower,it handles it fine so as Billy said under 40 HP the five foot should work fine down to 23 HP.

I have a 2000 and 3000 Ford. Also a 5' and 6'. At your hp you don't need to worry about gearboxes as the smallest cutters use a popular 45 hp rated box.
Depending on what you are whacking, your 30 hp tractor will run the 6'. With the 5' it's a no brainer. Nothing new about the new ones other than they are
made with the least amount of steel as is possible on the lower, competitively prices units. I also have a new 24 hp that runs the 5' but at that hp I can
overload it if I try in heavy stuff. I like running the 6' as it covers the tire tracks on the Fords. On the 24 hp, I like the 5' over what's usually sold with it, the
4' as the 5' covers the tire tracks.

In heavy stuff you can always move over and cut half a swath or whatever amount you want to run.
