Just bought a 8ft burch disk. There is a flat piece of steel that sticks up near the front of touge that I don't know what it does? I don't know how to lock the wheels down either for transporting disk behind a truck either.I am new to this style of disk,as you can tell. You think my old 50 MF will pull it?

I have an old Burch 3 point 8ft so I can not help there, but I doubt if my old MF50 will pull an 8ft in heavy going or very deep. I pull mine with a larger tractor but tend to use it like a plow.

Joe, does it have the hydraulic cylinder? I have never come across a transport disc with a separate lock.

I have never seen one without that lock to transport the disk without a cylinder. It is standard on all of the wheel carried disks. How do you think the dealers transport a new disk if they did not have that. They would have to have a hydrolic setup on the delievery truck to raise and lower the disk as they were usually just pulled to buyer instead of being hauled, and then even if hauled they could not unload with out that lock. As for the burch disk I don't remember hoe that worked as we got rid of our wheel carried transport Burch disk in about 1972. It was a 6 blade on a side and was a 7.5' disk on rear gang and I pulled it with either a 46 B or 49 B John Deere. Got rid of the Burch disk and got a bigger disk after got a 51 A instead of the 46 B.

Leroy, I would say that it would have been in the 70s that dealers around here quit towing implements to deliver them.

The disk does have a hyd-cylinder,still don't see any way to lock the wheels down where I can pull it with a truck.Cylinder works good, but I don't think it is the correct travel ( 8 inch) and don't believe it is moving that much.Disk cuts pretty good ,but will need new disk on the front. There are 7 per side.Thinking it is 9ft disk.

They still do it today here. They no not have to wory about oversized loads towing but if they put it on a truck they have to have all the permits and even a lead vehical. So many a time have seen a implement hooked behind the truck with a roll back bed.

Unless a previous owner took it off it has one and a 7 blade would make it a 8.5' disk. Unsafe to transport on road without putting it in the transport mode with thast lock that holds it up in transport position without a cylinder.
