Advice used Vermeer round baler

Looking to add another round baler, for my
budget considering Vermeer 5400, 5410 or
504L, and will use twine, and elec tie.
Anyone with knowledge on these models to
advise if any significant pros or cons. Now
I only bale about 150 rounds a year, dry
Orchardgrass hay. My older 504 needs to
retire.Thanks

I had a Vermeer 504L years ago and it did fine in grass hay. Would let shorter alfalfa fall out of the pickup.

I have a 5410 with twine and net. Like you, I do not bale many bales with it per year. I only use the net so I cannot say what the model does as far as twine tying. I have the Accu-Bale monitor and have no complaints whatsoever about the baler. I will mention a couple things you probably already know:
1. It was not designed to be a high capacity baler. I have gathering wheels on mine and it handles big windrows fine, you just need to take your time.
2. It is designed to be run by lower HP tractors, I think as low as 45 hp. It is easy to operate. I had never ever run a round baler before and I figured it out.
3. It will not bale wet or damp hay, which is a good thing unless you are putting up baleage.
4. Since you are using twine this wont matter, but I bought a couple rolls of 48 inch wrap. I will not get that next time. I will get the 51 inch wrap.
