268 new holland baler

That can be caused by a number of things. twine disk not catching the twine or the bill hook not grabbing the twine or needle not putting the twine where it should go etc. One has the cycle the knotter by hand and watch what is going on the know what is wrong and where and what to do to fix the problem

OK,you have all new parts. Now they all need to be properly adjusted. And that can only be done by reading and following the book(owners manual) 'to the letter'.Do that and your baler will bale like a new one. About 40 bucks.

But are they all adjusted correctly and timed correctly?? If they are nt then there is the problem. One cannot just install parts and have them work unless there in place as they need to be

For the front twine to tie the bill hook has to catch the twine. For that to happen, the bill hook has to function properly, AND the tucker finger has to push the twine to where the bill hook can catch it. Watch it in operation as someone turns the flywheel by hand. Then once that works, fill the bale chamber with hay, let the plunger run a few cycles with no new hay so it has filled the bale chamber but is no longer pushing hay, disengage power, then tie a know while someone slowly turns the flywheel by hand so you can see what is going on. You will figure it out.

have the manuals ( operators and knotter manuals)I will go back through everything. It just seems odd that one knotter would work and one not work. Could t be that the knife arm isn't the twine off the bill hook? I really appreciate all the advice-I am really new at this

my new holland 275 was doing that and would tie 8 or 10 then miss 1 or 2. I checked the bill hooks and twine disc and emptied the baler out and tripped it and cycled it thru turning it by hand watched . Everything looked as it should, read the manual and did this for a hour or 2. I also have a john deere baler and read that manual and there was a check to trip it and turn over by hand until the needles was coming in to the twine disc i noticed that the knotter I was having trouble with the needle was about 3/16 of a inch away from the twine disc. The knotter that was tieing was only about 1/32 of a inch away from the twine disc, I adjusted the needle as the manual and haven't missed a bale in over 1500 bales.

As has been mentioned, the two bill hooks need to be doing the exact same thing during the knotting cycle. The twine tuckers both should also be moving in unison pushing the twine in towards the bill hook so as they rotates they catches the two strands of twine Wrapping the twines around the bill hook. You really need a helper to slowly rotate the flywheel so you can watch the needle lay the twine in the cord holder, at that point two bungee cords can pull the twines as if a bale is being formed, trip the star wheel then the tucker fingers pull it into the billhooks. Relax and watch it all happen, the only way you will learn what it is NOT doing that it should be. gobble

Not odd at all. Frequently one knotter will not work, while the other will tie perfect. Normal/common occurrence.

Did you get it fixed? I had the same problem...I had the baler cranked down too tight...loosened it up and tied 100 in a row. Found the solution in the manual knot picture troubleshooting section.
