John Deere #5 sickle mower

Want to mount #5 jd mower on a 60 jd. Info
on mounting brackets and photos of mower
mounted to tractor would be appreciated.

We had 1 on a WD45 AC. Just 3 bolts bolted it to the drawbar, hook up the PTO and hyd line. A good old mower, one of JD's best.

There are special brackets needed to mount it to a 60. Do you have those brackets? I'm going to send you an email to discuss further. The "drawbar" mentioned by hd6gtom on a WD45 is way different than the drawbar on a 60. The usual brackets to hold a #5 on a 60 have 3 bolts each and bolt on the edge of the drawbar support.

i have the brackets you need came off an a john deere they are angle irons with round pegs to mount the clamps to 30 pr plus shipping

In the operator's manual for the John Deere #5 mower, which shows the different attachments for John Deere and other brands of tractors, including the two-digit JD models of tractors, it only shows the clamp type set-up for a model 60. But....we used the bar type hitch on a '46 JD A. The tractor had an angle iron piece bolted on each side of the factory drawbar support on the tractor and the mower bar was bolted directly to it so don't see why this couldn't also work on a model 60.

Right David there must have been two different style brackets used to mount mower to the tractor I need the ones you are referring to to attach to the flat bar on the mower. Just wondering how much searching I will have to do.

Then you need the bracket set shown in the upper drawing on page 55-3 of the Parts Catalog PC-466. But I don't think they will attach directly to a model 60 without some modification.

You will probably be farther ahead finding the attaching parts shown on page 50-1 of the PC-466.

Reviewed the [b:654c4848f0]OPERATOR'S MANUAL No. OM-H10-346 JOHN DEERE No. 5 CASTER-WHEEL POWER MOWER[/b:654c4848f0] under the [b:654c4848f0]TRACTOR HOOK-UP[/b:654c4848f0] section on page 35.

Take a look at the diagram below.

Note the EXTENSION DRAWBAR part number [b:654c4848f0]Z 7387 H[/b:654c4848f0] and BRACE part number [b:654c4848f0]Z 7563 H[/b:654c4848f0].

Hope this helps.

James, that is similar to the set-up we used on the '46 A except we never used the brace that is shown fastened to the axle and we didn't use the foot lift. Had a single action hydraulic cylinder to lift the bar.

Thank you James for posting this diagram huge help! And thanks to everyone who responded this is a great site!

We had a late 47 A. As I recall the hitch brackets were basically angle iron with a pair of 2 inch or thereabouts round stubs about 1 and a half inches long. The foot lift slipped onto the cultivator mounting studs on the axle. I don't think we had the angle brace shown in the picture. The old fellow behind us had a 5 mower with the clamps. He had a pipe welded across the hitch of his DC Case for the clamps but it would crack from the vibrations.

Take a look at the photo below of "Easy" our 46A.

Well I guess I will have to go and see if I can come across the right draw bar. I have a few leads on the drawbar extensions with round pins. I also need yoke to go on front of power shaft to go on tractor pto.

Thanks.

"Easy" was an easy project.
