Those guys sure can strike out a nice land. If I remember right there was a plowing competition
between Wakonda and Beresford SD a few years ago.

(quoted from post at 23:13:50 07/20/18) What are those guys judged on for the competition?

Quality of work, in a nutshell: straightness, trash coverage, furrow conformation and uniformity, no pairing of furrows, quality of seedbed: soil is form without lumps and holes, straight land ends, and a category for the crown and the dead furrow. The crown should be close to level with the rest of the plowing, be sealed up to prevent weeds from growing through. The dead furrow should be straight, clean, shallow, but yet have enough soil to make a seedbed.

Most recently, South Dakota has hosted the National Plowing Contest south of Beresford in 2014, Gayville in 2009, and Twin Brooks in 2004.

The guy that wins this contest should be crowned pope. LOL I think I do a decent job of plowing overall but I couldn't cover all the categories to win anything. They would definitely get me at the straight
part.

Hope somebody goes and takes a video/sound of making a crown correctly. Would also like to watch
somebody set up a plow to turn uphill.

No plowing uphill in the contest. Could not get enough of same slope for everybody. They pick as flat of land as can be found so all plowers have the conditions the same. I think each contestant has 1/2 acre to plow both with a headland and a dead furrow. And the contestant on your side for the dead furrow does not leave a perfect furrow for his last one you start out in trouble. I have friends that plowed competavily for years sometimes traveling 2 states away to plow. One went overseas I think twice till he could not enter any more in any class. When you go overseas they furnish a unfamilar unit for you to use. Years ago friends tried to talk me into entering but I was not interested enought to that and then I had no way to haul my travtor and plow.
