working on the ih-100 sickle mower today, took out the old knife, all the guards (a miss matched mess) saved the good ones and threw out the bent wore out and wrong guards. built a complete new knife last week. bought 15 new guards today. cleaned up the bar with the buffer and grinder, primed and ready for paint tomorrow. some pics of todays work.

Cm have ya thought about going to the new double guards ? ? I was
running 8 mph with the ol number 8 the other day . That paint looks
really nice I?d like to paint my mower I?ve got two gallon John Deere
paint and maybe I?ll try brushing it on the mower

Never used one of those IH trailer mowers,I'll be curious as how it does for you.The offset axle makes for turning corners easy, both my New Holland 456 and AC 82T mowers have that axle design. After using a trailer mower to cut hay I'd hate to go back to a 3pt or other mounted mower.

sv. I was going to go with the new double guards and under cut sections, but when I got the mower in the shop I took a look at the guards and sections and this mower uses the same sections and guards as my case t-10 and I had enough on hand to build a new knife and just had to pick up 15 new guards to replace the bad ones so went with that. now it's just finish paint and assemble, and wait for some dry weather. just had another quick down pour about 10 minutes, and thunder storms and rain this afternoon

i'm looking forward to see how it do's with the belt drive balance head compared to my old case t-10 pitman T.F., the sickle speed is faster, with the offset axles the cornering should be easier. will get some pics and hopefully a video and will let you know how it do's.

(quoted from post at 22:45:51 07/20/18) How wide is this mower
it's has a 7ft. cutter bar sv., worked on it again yesterday put the pto shaft with the new u joints in, went through the ledger plates only 3 left on it? and those were worn right down so another quick trip into case ih this morning for 7 new ledger plates. replaced 3 seized grease irks and greased, got to make adjustments to the pto shaft height (move it up) so the shaft will be running close to level on the m5.

I have one of those sitting out in the weeds. A future project. Also a 120 mower but it is in much better condition and I have used it. The balanced head mower I like the best is my 115. Hangs on the side of the SMTA. Really nice mower that does a great job when I need it. But my number one is an old IH 990. I love that thing. Keep the sickle in good condition and it will go thru just about anything. Looking forward to more threads on this mower...keep em coming! :)

replaced all the spacer plates not ledger plates

just about got the ih-100 ready for cutting today, had an idea last night on installing and dialing in the new knife bar assembly, I painted the new knife bar with primer (both sides) and then this morning installed the new guards, hold downs and spacer plates. slide the new knife in and put the pin in. rotated the pto shaft by hand and watched the sections and hold downs, checked the sections for rubbed off paint, raised those hold downs, checked spacer plates for alignment, resprayed primer on rubbed areas and rotated again, showed me any tight spots, 2 more rotations and it is dialed in turning nice and smooth with no binding :D found both hydraulic lines rubbed through to the steel and weeping hyd. oil so pulled them both off to go in for replacement on mon. morning. here's some pics of todays work.

(quoted from post at 17:28:39 07/22/18) I?m jealous cm that looks way better than mine
thanks sv., I had to pay a premium to get this mower and drive 250 miles each way but it was worth it as this mower had always been stored inside and looked after. still has a bit more work to do but i'm sure looking forward to mowing this heavy alfalfa field with it. will try and get some pics and video of it mowing.
