My NH 489 haybine is making a knocking noise , I found the bolts on the 2 weights were loose ? I tightened them , now I see the bolt on the bottom of the gear box needs to be tightened more, anyone ever seem this? The weights hit a bolt next to them?

Your header side play is too much, letting it swing over and hit bolt. You will need to check your shaft and arm splines, I think I replaced the arm on mine. you can temporarily stop the side play by fitting big washers on the bars that hold the header. They look like a short Ford tractor stay bar and they have wear bushings in the holes, 3/4 bolt head. The right side is pretty easy to do , I havent tried the left side because I think I need an extra pair of hands. There is also a sliding joint that stabilizes header in the middle of the bottom that you can weld shims to tighten it up. It might need new bolts. You can also flip the parts over 180* so it doesnt gather dirt. You can weld up a lot of worn parts. The bushings in those end bars can be made out of cold rolled steel and drill holes in them. If it has that much play in it you might want to take a 1/16" drill or 2 and put some holes in the thin outside ring of the crimper bearings. You can then use a needlepoint grease head on your gun to grease the bearings. I did that on our second haybine and have never pulled a bearing. Paint the holes white so you can find them easy. I dont grease them like the rest of the machine, just when its parked for the winter.

In your picture that arm that has the bolt can be washered up also. I havent done any of those, they support the header weight and sideplay. Theres one on each side and they have bushings in them that wear. That bolt holds the bushing, when that bushing wears it will make the header not rise as high because it will take up the slack and then rise. You will have to probably lift the header to get those out. I wouldnt remove any of those four header parts unless you can wiggle them by hand meaning that there is no strain on them. Try the top link on the right side first, Its close to the roll pressure adjustment. You might want to use a cable puller and a bottle jack on the others. You just dont want it to come apart and not be able to put it back. Just play safe. Google play safe cartoon before you work on it. Theres a lot of wisdom in that one cartoon. Try this link to the parts explode. http://cnh-b2b.ptcmanaged.com/index.php/sbsimage/NH/default/451345.png

Jay, haven't seen anything of you in awhile. How is your daughter? Is she driving the tractor yet?
