GEHL Part # 200-32448 SOCKET ASsembly

have a gehl 2170 haybine 9 foot. if i dont grease socket assembley on knife bar every half hour it wears out quickly. could it be that rock guards are rubbing and need to be bent in proper position. what is normal greasing interval if working ok. example once every 10 acres. thanks

The shortest intervals I?ve seen is two hours on the plain bearing in the pitman on my sickle mower . The next shortest is in the John Deere knife drive at 5 hours on the self propelled sickle windrowers . Unless you are using the worst grease on the planet I?d say there is something else causing it to heat up and wear out . Knife binding in the guards, bent knife back, bent guards .

If you disconnect the knife from the wobble arm, you should be able to slide the knife through the guards by hand, with relative ease. Get down on your hands and knees, at one end of the header, and take a look down the length of the knife. You can see any guards that might be tipped up or down. Easiest way to straighten bent guards, is to use a guard bender. You can make a simple guard bender with two pieces of pipe, like the one I made, which my wife is holding in the photo. Easy to use, and very effective. Just slide the short pipe over the guard tip, and to bend a guard down put the long end under and push down. Reverse for guards that are bent down.

I used to run an owatonna 217, probably the same model. I never had that problem. I just greased it once daily. You're probably correct that the guards need aligned.

Got some spare parts for that haybine for sale. I had a 2175 that I junked. Kept the hydraulics, gearbox, sprockets, wobble and some other assorted parts.

Hi John,

Did you still have any of the Gehl 2170/2175 spare parts available for sale? I'm looking for the 2 socket assemblies.

Thanks,
Don
