Trying to get two elevators to match speed

I use two elevators in my hay barn.. bought the 20' last year kinda as a sidewalk.. anyway.. ive been trying to match the speed of new one to old one.. I matched the motor pulley and the larger pulley that pulls the bales to the ones on my old elevator.. didnt match up.. so assuming there is sprockets and chain inside the box helping to reduce (slow with more torque)?? on the old one.. I put a small pully on motor and large 10" on the end but still fast.. Do I have to change the sprockets on the otherside also... didnt think it would be this difficult..

You might need to dismantle to check ratios. I built my own conveyors, both inside the barn, and the input one. Drove both with one motor, 1 1/2 hp. Connected the two conveyors with identical sprockets, running flat chain.

I would suggest putting the slow one first, won't matter if second ones takes the bale faster. I have been there, not fun having to run one elevator to another. We had a job where we had 3, one stationary and 2 in a barn. stationary one was slow enough that it wasn't a problem as long as others kept running.

Doing what your trying to do is next to impossible unless there the exact same brand and model. You have motor speed then size of pulleys then how ever it is geared inside the gear box plus the size of the drive sprocket on the chain it self. About the only way to get it done is if you can find a motor speed control so you can vary the speed of the motor or motors

mark a reference point on the chain on each elevator rotate the drive shaft one round then measure the distance each chain moved that will tell you if the gearing on the shafts of each one is the same or not then use the correct pulley ratios to get the desired speed on each this online calculator will help. I googled it under pulley calculator, gadi.agric.za/software/renting/pulley_calc.php

I run a 48 foot transport up peak and then a 24 foot skeleton , short one runs faster so no problems there . Is there a way to put a speed controller on one , rheostat I think the term is .

I tried the slower one first which works great until it hit the faster one then it shut down.. so new motor needed on newish elevator then go from there..

thanks to all for info..

Last year we ran two elevators, and put the slower second....didn't have a problem till the motor on the second quit. Its all about timing when you put em on in the first place. We ran with usual space for just the fast one, being two of us unloading(one on each end....off wagon and stack) that was the pace of about a bale every thirty seconds(takes about a hour to hour and half to off load 150bales). Bale would drop off the fast one and start on the slower, then by the time the second bale hit the second elevator first bale moved enough to be out of the way. Then second elevator was slow enough to not over work the stacker even though the bales were almost right on top of each other.
