New Holland 477 PTO Shaft came apart somehow, any idea why?

This has happened before due to some kind of problem with the hydraulic and the machine being lifted and then positioned a certain way. On my way back from the field, it somehow came detached again, which I know is partly because I need to replace the hydraulic cylinder because it loses pressure/fluid and it came down, but I can't figure out what exactly happened.

And what is the easiest way to get it back together? The last time this happened it was a big pain to get it back together

What tractor are you using? It sounds like your tongue drawbar needs repositioning. I believe there is supposed to be 14" from the end of your PTO shaft to the hole in the hitch.

I'm using an International 574 regular gas. This was in the transport position or however you call it, where it was at it's most narrow. Something happened along the way and it came apart, I really can't figure out how it happened at the moment.

A quick update, it dawned on me that I think it's possibly due to the hydraulic being all the way down while being driven in the transport position. My hydraulic cylinder stopped holding fluid and I think that resulted in the machine being at a position it's not meant to be in. Does anyone know if that's possible?

It will only come apart when its stretched past its limit. I dont know if you can adjust your drawbar length but on an 801 Ford I have three different holes I can pin to the drawbar bracket under the rear axle.

Are you engaging the transport lock when "roading" it?
To engage lock, remove spring clip, raise lock bar, install spring clip [u:f5cea2245a]under[/u:f5cea2245a] the lock bar! That will hold the bar up in the "locked" position. then, you are not relying on the cylinder to hold it up, in fact, you can even remove the cylinder, if you desire!

mm, I didn't know about that feature, I'll have to check it out.

As far as the height goes, this also happened while it was being stored, I suspect when the machine went down or something it somehow shifted. I had it stored in my riding arena where the hay is stored and I'm not sure if the jack sunk down too far in the leftover hay but it came apart.

Is there any easy way to get it back together? Does it just need to be moved back into a wider position?
