NH 68 vs. NH 565

Are there any substantive differences?

I was reading a thread talking about the 565 and decided to take a look on tractorhouse. They don't seem to be much different other than more sheet metal from my good ol' 68. Same feeder forks, same knotters/needles, chute not much different, same length mechanism, same drawbar front and back. Heck, the only real difference I see is the twine storage on the back rather than the front. The pickup looks about the same also.

So for 40 years newer, were they really any differences?

Yes, big difference. 68 is gonna have wood slides on the plunger for bearings. 565 is go have the steel rollers with bearings like most of the New Holland balers went to after the 68.

And as others have mentioned big difference in capacity.

Heavier knotters, more capacity, higher plunger speed, meaning more hay baled per hour. And the big one is more money to buy.

The basic design is pretty much identical IMHO, of course with update and a shaft going to the knotters rather than a chain going up the side of
the baler - but even that shaft is driven by a chain at the front of the baler.

565 higher plunger strokes per minute, wider pickup, more hay dogs, etc - but IMHO the foundation legacy of that baler is/was the NH68.

The BC5050, current production, is essentially the same baler as the 565.
