I?m having problems with the knoter on my NH 276 part of the twine is getting on top of the bill hook where it pivots tried to adjust the twine tension didn?t help I was wondering if the twine finger could be the problem

Give a tug on your twine where it goes through the needles and see how hard it is to pull. Is it just one side? If it is compare it to the good side. You can trip the arm and see how it looks as you turn it by hand. The knife arm should rub lightly on the bill hook as it sweeps under it. You can also take out the 3/8 bolt that holds the knotter assembly to the frame and raise it up and you cen see how the bill hook does and the arm sweep. The book says to tighten that bolt but back it off up to a full turn so it doesnt cause binding in the knotter assembly. You can sharpen the blade on the knife arm with a file. I've also found that sometimes the speed I run the baler will make a difference. Check the brass rollers on the knife arm for flat spots, if they arent oiled and left out in the rain they will rust tight and get flat spots. The old style knife arms had an allen screw you could take out and flip the brass roller if it had a flat spot. Ckeck your rollers on the bill hooks for flat spots. Here are some pics of knotter problems.

Did you compare that side to the other side thats working good. To check the twine tension you have to pull it right where it leaves the needle and goes to the top. I have also swapped the ceramic holders around to give them a new slide area. You might have to split the nuts to get them off. Someone was just pointing out how their needles have a worn groove in them. Did you try going thru a cycle turning the flywheel by hand?

Did you check the brass rollers on the knife arms for flat spots. Theres also supposed to be a spring that keeps the twine fingers pulled back in position. How is the twine finger adjustment?
