Drum mower is bent??????

A cow got in my equipment shed. When I went to drive her out, she jumped my drum mower. The shett metal, that holds the curtain is bent. The drive train, and drums seem to be in working order. The skirt is interfering with the drums. Its making a mess, while cutting. If I take a knife, and cut some of the skirt, will that affect the mowers performance? I know I have a higher likely hood of being hit by a rock, but will it affect any thing else?

Why not just straighten out the sheet metal holding the curtain??? Then it will work like is should.

Big hammer and a block of wood will straighten out a lot of sheet metal.

I would not mow without a good curtain on a drum or disk mower. Too much risk from flying rocks and such.

It's not really bent like that. It's more tilted on its axis. Considering screwing a houstrailer anchor in the ground, and jacking up the opposite side.

If you look under the cover you will probably see that it is supported by two or more steel straps. You should be able to put a bottle jack under the low places.

I have no use for the curtain as the grass pushes it out of the way when mowing, the action of the drums create a suction pulling it back,
and rocks come right on through the grass. $650+ right side door glass a few years ago and just last year a $300 right side rear glass.
Tell you this. The one that hit the side glass was headed right for my head. I saw the spot where it impacted the glass before it broke and
fell away. Open station and I would probably be dead!

As a result I took some 1" angle iron and some old corrugated sheet iron and made a permanent shield that provides the necessary
protection. One of the pieces of angle goes all the way across the front of the shield and acts as the grass deflector when mowing since it
sticks out beyond the pipe deflector.
