Putting a bush hog on a Farmall Super A

Question:

Would it be detrimental to a Farmall Super A PTO to run a 5 foot bush hog?

The Super A is about 15 hp. I'm reluctant to do it, but the grass is high and my bigger tractor is sick.

Does the sA have a three point? Do you have an 'over running' clutch? The offset may cause drive line problems. About the only way to find out is to hook it up.I don't think it harm the tractor. 15 isn't very many ponies. But try it,you may only take a partial swath,go slow, but as said try it.nothing to loose but a little time.

A 4 footer would be better but in all but in thick stuff it should do ok. You have to use a pull type due to not having a 3 point and you for sure need and ORC

You probably should off set the brush hog to the left to keep the PTO shaft from running in a bind and don't take a full swath.

My first tractor, back in 1979. I did it. Local buy-sell-trade guy was over one day and commented that he had never seen a mower run that
slowly.....ground speed. Well 15 or 16 whatever number of ponies, don't/doesn't/whatever go very far and that was all she would do. I
really doubt you would hurt that old girl. If the temp starts getting up there, back off......that would be my first clue.

I run a 6 ft Woods with a B. The greatest problem I see in using a Super A is the pto is not in the center. You do not have to cut as low as some try to do. I must add that a Woods seems to require less power as there is a large amount of space above the blades. Those little tractors are tough
