Bought a Ford 515 sickle mower

Went to an auction yesterday and came home with a Ford 515. The idea is to use it to cut down my sunflower patch this fall after it dies off.

The mower is not in great shape but I don't have allot in it. The knife assembly is broken where it connects to the wobble shaft. I can buy a new knife assembly for around $200.00 of try to weld what I have. Assuming the wobble box is salvageable with maybe new bearings I could end up with about $400.00 in a working mower. Right now Craigslist has two listed locally for $900.00 and $1000.00.

Guess my question is did I get hurt thinking I could end up with a working mower for $400.00?

I have parts and piece of 2 of those old 515 Fords and the owner manual to boot. My ex father in law gave me one of them due to the bearing going bad and back then that bearing from Ford cost over $350. I still have a bar for it laying around the place plus a lot of other parts. I have used a few of the parts to make other things with also like a quick connect for machine a guy I know has. He asked me to rig up a 3 point sort of thing for his machine so I used the arch part to do it with

I'd just price out all the parts I needed and then figure if its worth it,which I doubt it will be you can probably buy a working mower for less.I bought a JD 350 3pt sickle mower
off CL last Fall ready to mow except for needing a sickle blade assembly with extra spare parts for $200.

They are a decent mower. Did you also get
the bracket for it that attaches to the
right 3pt lift link arm? Often those not
included when sold. I have one could be
used for parts, wobble box bad.

I?ve got 650$ into my no.8 John Deere new double guards
new pitman stick new sickle assembly new u joints new tire
and had to make a hitch to hook to a 3 point and lengthen the
power line

Old, if you are in the Ozarks you are not too terribly far from Tulsa. My mower is an 8 foot 515 but if I had to go to 7 foot it wouldn't be a deal killer. Could be worth my taking the time to come visit?

Maryland might be a bit too far to go for mower parts although we did drive to the eastern shore to get a puppy several years ago. You know for the wife, because I wanted to keep her happy.

If I remember right I drove out to Tulsa back in 1996 for a DOT physical and it was around 250 miles one way. I'd have to go out and see where that bar is and then measure it to see how long it is. I might even let the owners manual go, LOL Even though I collect manuals LOL

(quoted from post at 14:19:46 06/03/18) if a 501 is the same I have the parts very cheap just email

Wished it was but no joy, have found 501 sickle knife bars on the net for a whole lot less than I have been able to find bars for the 515. Ford must have made/sold a ton more 501s than they did the 515
