Best 72 in finish mower to buy?

I have a 72" King Cutter behind my 8N.
Its going on 10 years cutting 2-1/2 acres.
The original blades are about shot.
Replaced one belt, the bushings in one
wheel and one axle bolt. Had to do a couple
small welds but as rough as my lawn is,
thats not bad. Rear discharge. Does a real
nice job.

We have three BUSH HOG 720 finishing mowers.

They are either an ATH (air tunnel) or FTH (flat deck) style.

Very easy to maintain; just keep the blades sharp and a few shots of grease before each use.

They are used around the shop and several other areas around our farm.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

@KenL I have an 8N and will be mowing just over 3 acres so thanks!

@James Howell I hear those Bush Hogs are nice. What is your preference - ATH or FTH?

I sold Farm King by Buhler finishing mowers. The most popular was the rear discharge. Less windrowing of the grass and you can trim with either side. The model 630 weight 569 lbs., is a good choice for the average home/farm owner. Should be able to buy one for around $1800-1900. If you want really Heavy duty then go up to a model 655 it weights 697 lbs. they sell for around $2500-2600.

I sold this brand for over 20 years I never had a single person not like their mower.

As far as I can tell, they both work and cut the same.

The FTH (flat deck) is easier to power wash.

I have had several. The two I liked the best were woods, which I have now and a buler farm king. I didn?t plan to sell the farm king, but I priced it and he paid me.

I have a 72" King Kutter I bought over 15 years ago only thing I've done to it is keep it greased and replaced the belt once.Main thing to keep in mind its not a brush hog.

I have a Bush Hog 72 inch rear discharge finish mower. Have not had to do anything to it other than sharpen
blades and grease it for the past 10 years. Its built like a tank!

I've been mowing for years with a countyline , basically the same as a Kingcutter, for year without any problems. pulled with my ford 2n. No matter which one you choose I would suggest a rear discharge and
four gauge wheels. Although an ORC might not be necessary, cause a finish mower won't push you like a brushog, it's not a bad idea.

I have a green Frontier, bought used, got a good deal. It is OK and mows fine, but not built very heavy and I do not
think it was designed to last a lifetime.

I like King Kutter. Had mine about 20 years. Keep it greased before each use. Mine gets abused, but keeps on going. It is a five foot.
It is really gonna catch heck when it quits raining from the Gulf storm.

Definitely a well made mower, friend lucked out in finding a nice clean used one.
I can set my rotary cutter pretty low without scalping on even ground, but if I need to finish mow a path or small area, I'll use the lawn tractor. I can see shortening cutting time quite a bit with a 3 PT mower. Nice fit on that smaller JD, one of these would be great on my 640 ford.
