How fast should I plant?

I have looked in my manual and on the internet but have come up empty. I plant my soybeans with a John Deere 8200 drill with every other hole plugged for 15" rows. What would be the proper ground speed for this drill?

I plant beans at about 8 mph with a Great Plains no-til drill....

I have drilled at 8.5 mph with an air drill but unless you?ve got
1200 acres your trying to plant in a week I?d run between 4,5
and maybe 6

Thank you. I only planted 120 acres this year. I think around 6.5-7 mph that is the same gear I have drilled in before. I just never really thought about how many mph I was running.

I would not want to run in a field at over 5MPH. Faster to hard on the drill planter. I like my equipment to last.

Leroy, maybe you need a new driver on your finisher.

I know older machinery and would not want any of this new junk they put out today that people seem to think they can be on a race track with.

Personally I like to drill about like you 4.5 or 5 that?s getting a lot done in a day . I have drilled on big farms with big air drills that were made to run fast but when I?m on my old tractor I just enjoy the squeak of the drill . With a 16 foot drill running at 5mph that?s 9.69 acres an hour that?s quite a bit in a 12 hour day
