What do you call it?

We called them a monitor, just curios what they
were really called. This is a John Deere, and I don?t
know if it was part of a set or just made for 2 rows,
any info would be appreciated. I picked it up at an
auction for 10 bucks, and everything turns except
one disc with a bent shaft.

Some call it a Go Dig others call it a Go Devil. A cultivator for listed crops. Way back in the late 50's my dad had me on a H Farmall pulling a 4 row IH in Milo, Corn and Soybeans. First time it was set to throw dirt away from the row. Second time thru it was set to throw dirt in to the row.
After the second time thru the ridges were gone.

I cant really tell what it is by the pic. Im guessing as to the other comment that it is a 2 row go devil. I bought one when I was still a teen, and im 70 now. I tried to use it in the Missouri River bluffs with a F-20. Wasn't worth a damn. kept sliding down hill.

My uncle ran one for dry land milo. We farmed in the south central sand hills of Kansas. It was a 5 row that was set up to match the 5 row lister he planted the milo with. It was mainly used to kill weeds. The other thought was throw the ridge in to make it taller and the rain would run toward the plants. Then as stated above, throw it back out. He pulled it with a D4 Cat so he could "rest his eyes". Oh and he called it sledding. You couldn't wait to long as the plant shields would take the top off the plant if the got to tall.
