discbine vibration

Hey there. I have a "new to me" discbine 408. Had a chance to use it for the first time today. I notice that it vibrated quite a bit in the corners.

Read the manual again and realized that i forgot the extra drawbar piece that extends the shaft to hitch length to 22". i put that on, an it worked much better. However, theres still a vibration on tight corners.....normal?

One thing i noticed is that the shaft phase is not quite exactly in phase. It's like a degree or 5 out...(noticable by eye). Is that something that NH did on purpose? Or is it more likely that shaft has been apart and re-welded? It looks original.

Thanks.

PTO shaft out of phase 5° could be due to wear or possibly 1 or both ends of shaft is slightly twisted. i'll bet shaft was "in phase" when NH built the machine.

Well the shaft should be in perfect "phase". Some vibration is normal in turns. The PTO shaft has velocity changes going on when turned at angles. The longer hitch helps minimize this but it still happens.

So I took the shaft out and it's definitely off 5 deg or so. It's not worn out. The part that seems to be shifted is the "plastic" bushing. Is that a spline type of fit? There's a threaded cap that holds it in.

As I previously stated tube on female shaft(key 9) is probably twisted a little. You can cut sleeve loose from tubing then put shaft in phase then re-weld or cut tubing in the middle slide a larger tubing that just fits over present tubing put u-joints in phase & weld. Replacement tubing can be fairly thin wall material.

Yup, that's my plan. I'm just trying to figure out how to get that plastic bushing out without wrecking it. If I leave it in, I'm sure it will melt :)

Thanks.

OOPS I sure wish the edit function still worked but oh well.

Could you please post a photo of the plastic bushing you're referring to? Cutting off tubing shouldn't melt plastic if you wrap water soaked towel close to bushing.
