What type of gear oil is used in the ground driven gear box?

Ive got the steel wheel JD hay rake that my dad had. Im 70 and still using it. I bought 5 gal of the heavest gear oil I could buy, 90Wt. Never have had anby problems

Thanks for the information. I?ll use 90w. But I do wonder if 85w140 would work.

I'd choose "corn head lube" that was developed long after the rake but will work/not leak much better than gear oil.

If it was me, i would use Corn Head Grease,that's got to be the best for any gear box, now !!
