Question about Henry bale loader

Should the bales go in flat, or on edge, or does it make a difference?

I have never seen one but I found a U-tube video that shows them on edge.

Bales I remember seeing travel up bale loader were flat with wire/twine on the ground/loader

I think they even work on round [Allis-Chalmers] bales !

Well, reason im asking, is, dad bought my uncles henry loader in 65, after he died. We baled around 50lb bales in it, and the front panel, the one that would fall forwards under spring tension bowed. Dad fixed that by placing a 2X2 the length of the panel at each end.

I use one every year. Either way will work. I prefer to have them go in flat, that way when they fall on their side at the top they are laying on the platform in a way that makes it easy to grab the strings.
