Old New Idea Spreader

I have a very old New Idea spreader that I want to fix into working condition. It is ground driven, and has spoked metal rims.

My question is: How can I tell what model it is?
I have been all over the web and can not find a site to id new idea spreaders.

Any ideas? Once I have it identified, where can I get parts?

Thank you for your help.

Agco still has some parts. I have a PTO driven spreader that I just bought springs for from them. I can"t say how to ID your spreader. Being on steel is it a horse drawn model (would have 4 wheels if so). I have one of them also and would guess a junk yard would be the only place for parts for one that old.

Measure the box width and post and that will get us started. I have both the No. 8 and No. 9 spreaders, if No. 8 several different versions and I would have to find my parts book to tell the years of any of them.

Call Randy Renstrom in Alexandria, MN
320.762.2533 He has a wealth of manure spreader knowlege and lots of used parts.

Leroy,
The inside box width is 42"
The measurement from outside chain on one side of the box floor to the other side chain is
39 3/4".

It is ground driven, has rubber tires, but heavy duty looking spoked rims.

Again, I want to thank you for all of your help.
Tom

Spoked rims with rubber tires says that steel rims were cut off and rubber tire rims welded on for the rubber tires, all factory rubber that I am aware of are a disk wheel for a 7:50 X 24" tire. The width you give says it should be a No. 8 or possibly a No. 10 or 10A. Does it have straight sides or is there a small flair at top of box?

Sides are straight.
Thank you for helping me to identify this spreader.

That is not either model I said about as it has a tractor hitch setup and having said spoke wheels it indicated it as being a 4 wheel type spreader that the levers would have been on the box corners and not on the front to reach from a tractor hitch. So it is newer than I thought being in the early 40's instead of the 30's as I thought with spoke wheels. I am sure if I could find mu spreader books I could come up with a model and close to the year. It could possible be a no. 14 but without my books I can't tell for sure but I think they were probablt avaible with steel wheels at that time and it sure looks like 20" truck rims on it. If you want me to did further and try to find my books when I get the time send me an email at [email protected]

Where are you at? I think there is one tire on a spreader setting in my junk row. Northwest Ohio

Tom,
Did you ever find the make and model of your manure spreader in 2009? I have one and am trying to ID it too.
