Allis Chalmers 1-Bottom Plow identification and use

I'm not sure if this picture works.

I bought a plow much like this one and the most I can figure is that it's an Allis and I had to be told that too. I still don't know the model and I'd like to find a book for it. The only difference I can see from this to mine is the hitch design.

I'd like to know how the hitch works so I know it will release if I hit a big rock. I'll also appreciate any input on replacing the wear parts. Or tips to convert that to something I can buy parts for.

Trying to figure out how to post pictures from my phone...

It looks like a #1 Allis Plow. Over on the Unofficial forum there is a link to the scanned parts book for AC plows. Wear parts are all but impossible to find. You should be able to find a manual for it on eBay, here, or the Unoffical forum.

I believe (I will have to look sometime) I still have one or 2 NOS allis chalmers blacksmith shares like are on your plow. I am not sure if they (or yours) are 12,14,16" spacing though. Where are you located?

I'm in Wisconsin. The back of the moldboard is stamped with a 25-18 if memory serves. I'm guessing that means it's an 18".

I had one but sold it. I don't think mine had a tail wheel. just a long landslide. mine didn't have the sing piece coming off the upper moldboard, and mine had a single row of lugs. They wernt staggered.

This is just a guess but I think the tail wheel is just a gauge wheel so it doesn't go too deep.

It's I nice little unit. You can actually back this one up. Unlike my grandfathers which needed a third wheel to ride on at all times. Try to back that one up and the tail wheel spins into the plow and binds.

That tail wheel is not a guage wheel but just a rolling land side that should take less power to pull than a long fixed land side, It will do nothing for depth control. The long fixed land side coust less to make and that is why some makes used them. Actually the one with the tail wheel riding on ground all the time that is the hard to back model will hold depth better that the plow that lifts the back end for transport on rolling-hilly ground. But then it is only because it will not have a bar-chain to lift the back of plow whem you go over humps or valleys. Just mot that much difference to be thinking about for a 1 or 2 bottom but you get to a 3 bottom they have to have that carry tail wheel.
