Stoll and Morra equipment

An auction yard near me is listing a Morra MH2L tedder and a Stoll R 315 DS rotary rake. Tedder looks almost new and pic of the nametag has 2016 after the model number. Can I assume 2 years old? Anybody have experience with either one? I can really use a tedder and only bale about 24 acres. Have seen some not-so-good reviews on the Morra.

That brand/model of tedder can be bought brand new for $1695. So keep that in mind if you bid on it. I have not used that brand of tedder. I have used the Sitrex brand when looks to be about the same duty. Meaning they are a good LIGHT duty tedder. For your smaller acreage they would be fine. Just make sure you set them correctly. If you tilt them too far forward they will act like a rototiller and you will tear it up ASAP.

One thing to know about any hay tedder. You rarely run them at PTO speed. You want to lift and spread the hay not beat it to death. So that usually means a slower engine speed with a faster gear to cover the ground at an acceptable speed. An example I ted with a JD 3020 lots of the time. I run in sixth gear at about 1300-1500 RPM. The only time I run the tedder at faster PTO speeds is if I am busting open windrows that have been raked and then rained on. You often need the speed to spread the wet/heavy hay back out.

Thanks JD. I share a JD 752 with a neighbor. It's 17 ft wide and I cut with 7 foot MoCo. I usually ted three swaths, to take two and overlap some messes it up for the 8 foot rake. I get a lot of variation in the windrows so it's hard to make consistent bales. Even with three swaths it leaves a gap with no hay between each round. I'm thinking a smaller tedder would make it easier. Time isn't a factor for me with the amount I bale.

I have a MH2L I purchased 15 years ago best guess, paid about $1400 for it new as I recall + shipping from ASC. Seems crude but works fine for the intended purpose with a mod I made: The wheels were a cumbersome interference for me. Initially I cut the axle (vertical parts) off several inches to lower the angle of the tines and get more sweeping width out of it and finally just took the wheels off entirely. My only gripe.

In my clay soil, if I drop the tines too low to where they are "plowing" (accidentally of course) I will usually break off one or more.

ASC handles parts for the 4 rotor units but not for this one. I don't know if the parts are interchangeable or not. I got my spare tines off ebay.

Agree on the lower speed and another aspect of keeping it as low as is required to do what you want is that the faster you run it the wider the swath of scattered hay.....on edges of the field this is counter productive.
