Inner Shoe Wear Plate

To keep from hijacking SVcummins post on Haymowers, I posted this. I'm refurbbing my JD #9W mower. When reassembling the inner shoe, I discovered a missing wear plate on the inner shoe, under the front guide. I have a #9 mower for spare parts, and the plate was missing from it as well. Part number H24379 is still available from JD, price is $30.93. Wondering if anyone knew the thickness? I could probably make quite a few for $31.

1/4" or 3/8.I think $31 would be cheap compared to all the labor involed. It's more than just a flat chunk of steel with a couple of holes.

Well if it wasn't buried in a black berry thicket I could go out and measure the one on my JD #9. But I have not used it since I let a friend use it and he lost the inner pitman arm mount

If you're just using ordinary cold roll, you'll be making a lot of them. They won't be hard enough and will wear out pretty quick.

When I wearer one out, I use a hunk of truck spring to build a new one. They wear for a LONG time.....

Appreciate the replies. Thought they could be made from some 1/4" diamond plate. The mower probably only sees 12 acres a year, would they wear out that fast? I believe it's been missing for the 4 years I've owned the mower.

The worst you can do is try it if it don?t last like you
think it should you can always buy one . I probably
wouldn?t use diamond plate because it?s kinda hard
to work with
