3 point sisor lift hay spear question

I've got a 3point hitch sisor lift thats goes on the rear of my farm tractor and attaches to a hay spear
How well do they work?
Can i stack my 4x5 round rolls of hay with it?
Ive been told that you can stack round rolls of hay with it.

I picked one of those up a while back haven't had a chance to mount on any tractor yet,hope it'll keep me from having having to have loader tractors spread all out.

I bought 1 at an auction a few weeks ago to resale ( I have a loader on a tractor and a skid steer) but I've heard that you can load bales onto a deck over trailer so it would probably stack bales 2 high at the most. Any more would make it raising (on 4x4 bales) probably 10' high at a minimum & I just don't see how it could do that let alone the weight distribution on a small tractor could make it awfully light in the front end. It seems to me that a hydraulic cylinder on it would almost be a mandatory thing when trying to load or stack with one. Now these are just my thoughts and please don't take them for gospel. Keith

Yes one can stack rd bales with a rear scissor lift BUT it's difficult to determine correct placement of bales. As I age my neck doesn't seem to rotate as well as it did yrs ago.

It's just so you can stack 2 high on the ground, or one high on a trailer. Might need to make your three point linkage adjusted. 'Up' to get there, depends on the tractor.

I've used one a few times, good for loading on a wagon or trailer but unless your tractor is 7 feet tall it would be tough to stack a 4x5 on top of another one. BTW they will pinch your fingers off when trying to hitch up, watch out!

I have one much like the one pictured. I tried it on about four different tractors . It works ok on the 656 and the 170, not so well on a 544 Utility or the 5065E. It'l lift a 4X5 bale over the side of a pickup truck if you stab the bale as low as possible. I've picked a bale off the second tier, never tried to stack bales with it. Glad I only have $100 invested in it. Even tried removing the cylinder and using a short top link there. Might of increased height a bit.

I have one. As some posters have mentioned, they don't seem to cost "a lot". I purchased a 'homemade" one built very heavy for $150 a few years ago and probably could have worked the guy down some if I were so inclined. It is a struggle for one person to mount and unmounts it. in any event, I view it as very cheap insurance if the loader tractor is out of commission for any reason and I need to move rolls.

I Have one and use it every day. I like it and will never use a regular 3pt hay spear again.
