Hesston 530 manual tie system

Just got the baler. Trying to figure out whats up with the manual tie. When the rope is pulled the arm moves until it hits the part where the knife is and it stops. Seems like the arm is a couple inches too long. Is that mechanism supposed to slide back and forth to let the twine arm go past? Any advice is appreciated.

When the twine arm moves out of it's 'home' position, spring tension releases and the twine knife opens and allows the arm to pass through. Part of that mechanism has slotted holes that ride on a set of fixed bolts. See if that is moving okay and also check the rod that the twine arm pushes against when it stops. That rod is connected to the arm that makes the twine knife open and close. We have a 530 and I maintain two more for other people. They are about the most simple round balers made.

Garry thanks for the reply. I got it open but its very tight, and is going to need to be taken apart and freed up. Also found out the pickup is stuck and wont raise and lower. The handle is in the hole at the very top. Is that where the pick up is lowest to the ground? I believe the baler sat out with a bale in it for some time. Baler does not show a lot of wear . Any ideas about getting the pick up to move freely. Thanks for your help.

Yes, I believe that is the low hole for the pickup. We normally run in the middle hole. Spray the pivot points with some penetrating oil and try to work it back and forth, a little at the time. You may have to put a little leverage on it to get it to move back down, once it moves up a little bit.

Does your baler have the gathering wheels?
