More Oliver 540 fertilizer questions

Seeing as the dry fertilizer boxes and brackets on my 540 are rotting away, should I just take them off and not look back?

My greatest fear is that the planter would just look naked if the boxes aren't there. Once the boxes are off, they can't go back on, as the brackets are half gone.

Could the dry fertilizer boxes from a later white planter be made to fit if I wanted the look?

Thanks for your help!

Keep boxes on and use them. Will take less fertilizer. And with the new aplication rules comming out you will see more new planters with fertilizer attachments as it will no longer be leagle just to broadcast starter fertilizer but it is going to have to be incorperated. Rules are in efect this spring. At least in my area.

Well looks like they're coming off. I hit a bump today and the marker pin fell out and the marker hit one of the boxes and one side of the box and it broke the fiberglass.

It has come into efect for this spring for Ohio And you have to get a licence to apply the same as a pesticide licence. Only exceptance for that licence is you are under 50 acres. It has come about because of polution in Lake Erie from fertilizer run off. Many farmers are going to be supprised when they go to by fertilizer and cannot do it because of no licence. It is not going to affect me as I now only have 12 acres and it is cash rented out. Not sure about Indiana that is close by and also drains into Lake Erie. It is that too much surface applied fertilizer is washed off with rain. Not allowed to apply manure either if ground is frozen.
