Good evening,
I have an old 512 spreader, which is in generally good repair and very serviceable for my needs, except that the beater bar is getting rotten enough that it's losing paddles because the mounting points are rotten. one of those whistling past your head is quite enough. I'd like to replace the shaft, but haven't had any luck finding one. I'm familiar with the task of replacing a shaft and the project doesn't scare me, and we frequently have to have a new one fabricated because the equipment is obsolete, so that's fine too.
When I look at the part diagram, one end is splined and the other is keyed, with the larger diameter in the center for paddle attachment, I'm assuming that the center is hollow and the ends are stub shafts, welded in.
Has anyone ever built one of these, or better yet, have one in a fencerow? I'm in northwest Illinois, if it matters.
Thanks for your time!
