Oliver 26 grain drill

Hello! I've searched the forum and read a lot of posts on this--I am looking to confirm information on an Oliver drill I acquired. It has steel wheels, box is green, SN 26-27200. From what I've read on other posts, this would be post WWII (because it is green) and an Oliver 26 because of the SN, correct? Also, because of the steel wheels and low SN(?) and post WWII, probably late 1940s drill? Is there anyone out there that would have an idea of what this might be worth (in Ohio)? It's in great shape as it has been inside most of its life (like so many others it seems). Thank you so much!!!

All of the Oliver 26's were green and red. If you find a straight Superior 26 which is pretty rare they were red and yellow. Pretty much all the model 26 drills were on steel. Rubber was an option but not that common. Usually they don't bring much more than a couple hundred bucks. Not really overly collectable and not to many people looking at them for a user because of their age. I've seen people asking 5-600 out of them and they usually end up sitting on them for a long time. If you have some Amish around you may get a little more but even they are usually looking for more modern drills.

There's one just west of me that's been sitting out by the road for sale for a year now. I wish somebody would at least put it inside before it warps, but it's probably too late by now. I don't know what they've got on that one. I did at one time. Seems like it was around $250 or so.

I have one of the Superiors that I need to get rebuilt, just need time. Also an Oliver on low rubber same thing. The steel wheel version in either a 12-8 or 13-7 is a very desired drill and from my dealer friend he gets in the $600 range for one of the ones I have found and bought for him. I have just I think found the parts I need to redo the low rubber machine and if I go that way it will be on steel. RRLund, just how far up in Michigan are you? I think it is just too far to haul a drill. And you know the area close to where they are wanted. 15 mile from that old dairy barn you turned around at.

I didn't realize until reading here that there was any red on it, but I guess there is! Surprise!

Nimber of openers as in 8-10-12-13 or 16 openers and 7" or 8" between openers. A 12-8 drill will sow a strip 96" wide while a 13-7" drill will sow a strip 91" wide and a 8-8" drill will sow a strip 64" wide. Some older drills had openers on a 6" spacing while the newer ones use a 10" spacing.

Thanks, Leroy! I will look at the drill a little closer next time I'm out there. Appreciate the information!

Hey Leroy, I got a message that said private messaging was disabled. Since this drill is a 12-7, is this one that your dealer friend may be interested in? I would like to communicate with you further on this but I am unable to PM you. Thanks...

You must be on modern view that I do not use to get that message. On classic I did not have my email opened but I will now. You will find it in bottom right hand corner of post on classic. Have no idea if or where it will show up on modern.

Leroy, I am still getting this message whether I'm in classic or modern view: "The author of this message has not provided an email address or has hidden it from view. If you wish to contact them, simply reply to the message post and they will see it the next time they view the discussion."
Can you get to my profile and see my email?

Leroy, your email won't come up. I checked with site admin, they said it is because you don't have your email open to receive a private message.
Also, I said that the drill was a 12-7 but then I recalled you said 12-8 or 13-7. Does a 12-7 even exist or did I measure wrong? It definitely has 12 openers. I would still like to PM with you about this drill if you are willing to open up your email. Thank you!

First thing you have to do is get off modern and go to classic, then forget you ever saw the words private message. that has never worked as far as I know. I do not use modern at all as way to complicated. If you go to classis and look on all the posts yours included on lower right side it has 2 spots in parenthise, left says reply right says either no email or send email. Yours says send email. Most of mine say no email as I did not put it in the start of the post but the post I put on that I opened my email says send email . You just click on that and fill out the information in the form that comes up and then click on send. It will then say message send and should recive shortly if address is correct. So try that to contact me and it should work. I know that system does work. Now about a 12-7 I have not heard of that so I do not know if they made one or not. I just know I have seen on drills marked 12-8 or 13-7 or 16-7, one I have here was marked 8-8. I know on a McCormick the 12 opner drills were all 8" wile a 13 was 7" with odd numbers of openers being all 7" spacing with even numbers all were 8" spacing in the size sold around me. I am in northwest Ohio and where I take drills and other machinery to the Amish is in northeast Indiana. If you follow directions I have given you I should be able to get your email and then it will give me your email when I open your message.
