New Holland 640

Looking at a New Holland 640 round baler. Don't know anything about them. In general is this a good baler? It has been kept in a barn, for the last 10 years made less than 100 bales/year. Anything to watch out for? Thanks

Pretty good baler, and an early version of a 644. Bearings and belts are about all that can go wrong with them. They're a good baler for a few hundred bales a year or for a larger operation. Check the bearings after operating for a prolonged time with a heat seeker thermometer and keep them clean.....

A good baler if it is twine only AutoWrap. If it has Bale Command it is an earlier version than a 644 or 648 and won?t be as trouble free.

Good balers, I sold my 94 silage special model in 2014, other than pickup cam bearings and the left side auger bearings the rest were original. Have to have narrow windrows for the standard pickup model, hard to get them narrow enough with a v-rake. Mine had the wide 6' pickup and I really liked that. Sometimes it didn't want to start a fresh ball of twine but after a couple of bales the twine would feed out ok.
Sold it to my nephew and he's still using it on his small acreage, I upgraded to a 2012 BR7070 with Super Sweep pickup, we're doing about 1000 rolls a year now and I felt that was pushing the old 640 for it's age.
