Bought some Oliver plows

I bought a set of 3 point 2x14 Oliver plows at an auction last Saturday. The moldboards and points are in really good condition and the coulters are on them as well. I'm wondering what color the beams should be painted ( I kinda figure green but I don't know for sure. They would be nice to hook to a smaller Oliver & take to shows but I don't believe Mommy would approve another tractor just now since she bought the Kubota LOL.

Are they the rooster comb type?? I had one of those a number of years ago but traded it off on a Case SC that I latter sold. I still have a Oliver 2-16 plow on rubber

Is it like this one? This is the correct color. A model 3241.

I think Old did not notice you said 3 point hitch, The rooster comb is a pull type rope type lift. Has nothing to do with the bottoms.

If it is like the one below they were good plows. You could paint it red as I have saw a few that were factory red after white took over oliver. Tom

I'll look today after I get back from my hosp. apt (getting an injection in my S.I. joint. I didn't even think of the model # on the tag. But I don't thinl the top link area is the same and the coulters are solid not scalloped.

Coulters are optional in style so either could be corect orignals. And that plow is adjustable frame width to use 12", 14" or 16" bottoms. Mine was a 3 bottom version. And it was set on 16" frame setting with 14" bottoms and worked good. Sold it when I quit farming and leard it was later crushed when a barn fell down on it.

Auctially Oliver equipment was red befor they started with the green but by the time they had 3 point equipment I think all equipment was green and that plow was way before any connerction with White. So it should be green. If it was the old rooster comb lift pull type plow it could have been either red or green depending on year.

Why is a plow with multiple bottoms called "some" plows or a "set" of plows? Never heard of a plow referenced that way before. Is it a regional thing or maybe a hobby farmer thing? I have been farming for well over 50 years and these adjectives are new to me. It's either a 3 bottom plow or a 5 bottom plow, etc, etc, etc. By the way my plow has been parked in a fence row for the last 30+ years.

I have to agree, "Plows" means more than one plow, but for six decades of my life a Plow (singular) could have one, two, three, four, up to 12-16 bottoms. I have no idea what a "Set of plows" could be, maybe a matched pair of similar plows so you could plow with two or more tractors?

Dad had a pair of #8 3-14 IH plows, but I wouldn't call them a "Set", but one became a 4-bottom, first a Deere, then an IH 4F-43 fully mounted IH Fast Hitch plow, then a Case pull type plow. The Case was the best plow, not as much trash clearance as later model semi-mounted plows but close. #8 IH plows had no clearance.

I think it's a regional thing, like do you clear snow from a road with a Blade or a Plow? To Me, you put a Blade on something, tractor or truck, and it becomes a snow plow, you can plow snow with it. Not sure what a "Plow Blade" is, I know what people mean when they say it but don't know why they call it two names. It's a Blade!
