John Deere 858a hay rake

Recently picked up a nice looking 858a side delivery rake. Not surprisingly, it needs some teeth. Unfortunately, the 858a requires teeth with a vertical mounting stud or bolt unlike my JD 640. Are teeth with the vertical mounting bolt hole still available or will I need to modify the bar to give me horizontal mounting holes? Thanks,

Pete

What??? Could swear that my brother's 858a has horizontal tooth mounting holes as I usually replace some whenever I use it. Have I taken a bad fall???

I just drill horizontal holes and
replace with standard teeth. I could
never find vertical teeth, seems like
every place specifically said not
vertical. And with teeth now I would
rather be able to go to the store and
get teeth and be done instead of
trying to find them.

Yeah, I think they made them both ways because you can find teeth on shoups site that say they will fit the 858a and 896 and like rakes except those with vertical studs---I guess those quirks are to be expected of 60 yr old equipment

Pete You can still buy them from JD but they are not cheap. IF your talking maybe 3-4 maybe use the OEM ones but if more I would drill the pipe. The vertical tooth number is AE11188 list $22.27 each
